„from now on - for a while“

Das Projekt von Nao Osada und Renata Darabant, "from now on - for a while“, welches das Schluckbild,

Die Phrase/ Die Gier/ Das Mitgefühl/ Das Wesen/ Die Sünde/ Die Gemeinschaft/ Die Tugend/ Die Liebe/ Die Erleuchtung/ Der Zustand/ Die Wahrheit/ Die Lüge/ Die Sucht/ Der Unterschied/ Die Menschlichkeit/ Die Ewigkeit/ Das Individuum/ Das Gefühl

Der Text ist wie folgt:

„This will become a part of you for a while, from now on you will be a part of this.“

"from now on - for a while"

The project by Nao Osada and Renata Darabant, "from now on - for a while", which deals with the swallowing image, the belief in images and the incorporation of images, and the resulting participation of the image in the person,

as well as the possible participation of the person in the greater meaning, consists of an installation and two editions.

How does the flood of images influence the meanings of individual images or their attribution?

Starting from the swallowing pictures of Catholicism, an internalization - an eating of pictures - is examined and practiced.

Swallowable images and texts of the time (from about the middle of the 17th century - the middle of the 19th century, even with mentions of sales around 1928) are used for the good, as universal protection, averting disaster, or healing as a house pharmacy for humans and cattle, up to edible strange characters, in the form of incantations dating back to invulnerable soldiers of the 16th century.

The effect of religious swallowing pictures consists of four possible reasons:

On the one hand by the magic of the archetype that finds representation again, and the swallowing picture in a mediator role of the archetype builds up a pictorial connection by which one honours the archetype. On the other hand, the repeated copying of such swallow pictures and their texts - even if they merely imitated writing - by referring to effective pictures was also considered effective. Also the contact magic was of great importance, in which the swallowing picture was introduced to the statue of the saint figure and then blessed by a clergyman. Also for buildings the placement of such objects in different combinations was intended as special protection against certain disaster.

The flood of pictures and the strong digital networking causes an involuntary consumption of different pictorial contents. They remain anchored in our lives on an unconscious level, because we do not understand them logically and thus consciously take them in, but first and foremost grasp them in their effect as images.

A personally defined selection of 18 terms to which Renata Darabant has developed images is supplemented by two pieces of text by Nao Osada. An incantation, so to speak, to be eaten in English and Japanese, in constant repetition.

The pictures deal with the following topics:

Phrase/ Greed/ Compassion/ Essence/ Sin/ Community/ Virtue/ Love/ Enlightenment/ State/ Truth/ Lie/ Addiction/ Difference/ Humanity/ Eternity/ Individual/ Emotion

The text is as follows:

"This will become a part of you for a while, from now on you will be a part of this."

If there is a healing effect of the earlier swallow pictures, they are here neither of an ecclesiastically nor compellingly healing nature, because they are based on the belief in the meaning of their presence. If you eat them consciously, you take the opportunity to deal with your own values. The text shows that this exchange does not only lead in one direction,

because if you feed yourself, you become a part of it.
